Open Your Lens: Tell your story

The “Open Your Lens” project is a continuous series of Polaroid portraits taken of those bereaved by suicide. Each portrait is taken after Mione meets with you and learns about your loved one - sharing memories and looking into a window of your loved one’s life. The portrait is accompanied by a written essay about the experience, and the memories shared. Each year, more portraits & stories are added - ultimately resulting in 100 Polaroid Portraits arranged in a grid. The process of obtaining each Polaroid opens the door of conversation between Mione (the photographer), and you - both who have survived a tremendous loss. With this piece, Mione - who lost her mother to suicide, in addition to many friends and family - wants to give space to talk about the topic, a safe space to remember our loved ones for who they are - not simply for the way they died. Mione aims to raise awareness and money toward the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in memory of her lost loved ones - and yours.

We need to unite and remove the stigma surrounding the conversation about suicide. If you are a survivor of suicide loss, please consider participating in Open Your Lens -

You are not alone. Hope is possible.

Mione wants to hear your story, and share it with the world.
